Petroglyphs are symbols drawn on rocks by prehistoric cultures. The people who lived in the Four Corners area (where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah come together) are believed to have used the symbols shown for morning/day and evening.
On the grid, each square measures 1 inch on each side. Fernando is making a mural and wants the base and height of these figures to be twice their original measurements. What will be the ratio of the new area of each figure to its original area shown here?

A. 10:8

B. 4:1

C. 2:1

D. 1:1

If you have a square that is 1x1, the area = 1 sq inch

If you have a square that is 2x2, the area = 4 sq inches

so, the ratio of new area to orignal area = 4:1 (B)
